Making Exercise Suck Less

Elliptigo is a revolutionary contraption that combines the elliptical machine with biking, available for preorder now.

If you took an elliptical machine and grafted it onto a bike, you'd get something like this. Actually, you'd get exactly this—riding one is like riding a regular bike, but you stand and cycle on an elliptical machine's pedals.

The reason you'd do this: to get somewhere, obviously. (This thing tops out at around 25 to 30 mph on the open road.) You stand (rather than sit, as on an ordinary bike), so you won't have to put up with wet bike seats in the rain, and you'll have a better vantage point on the traffic around you. Perhaps, even a better perspective on life—but no guarantees.

The chain's in the back, so if you're wearing pants—and we advise you to do this regularly—they won't get greasy. And not that you should do anything rash (like throw out your bicycle), but you'll find it has another distinct advantage over your regular run: it's low-impact, so it's easier on the knees.
