Hula Hoop Your Way to a Cheap Hotel Room

So here’s the deal: if you can hula-hoop for one minute at check-in, Hotel Palomar will give you 50% off your stay. If you make it only 20 seconds, then you get a free room upgrade. This offer is good through September 7 and is part of the Summer Playground package that starts at $199 a night.

So if you're in the mood for a stay-cation (possibly the worst term to come out of the recession), check out Palomar. Oh, and everyone's fave Naughty Chef Blythe Beck is being naughty in the kitchen, so check her out.

The 11-minute firework show can be seen from every park at the lake. The scheduled music this week (Friday- July 31) is from the 70s era. Make it a day of boating, hiking or shopping and check out the great restaurants in the area before the fireworks begin!

New Hacienda in Town

Henderson is about to have yet another reason to be your fave hang out locale. Hacienda is opening on Friday and will feature fabu Mexican food, beers, and tequila (yum). While it replaced one of our old favorites (Cuquitas), it should quickly find itself in our good graces since it has house-made infused tequilas. Oh, and it's open til 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturdays so you've got an alternative to post-partying Taco Cabana. (Not that we mind Taco Cabana at all.)

See you on Henderson!

Ralphie May will be at The Improv July 30 - Aug. 2 and is totally worth the ticket price. He's even better now than he was on Last Comic Standing, so get your tickets ASAP and get there early to get a good seat.

Friday is National Tequila Day

Because I need an excuse to drink Tequila. . . let's celebrate the south of the border spirit on Friday. I know it's cliche, but Patron really is a good tequila. And Cuervo gold always makes a good margarita. Now, where to celebrate my new favorite holiday . . . .

New New York Deli in Town, Yum

Matzo ball soup fixes just about anything, and the good news is there's a cool new place to get your fix. Opening Thursday, Zinsky's Deli will take care of your Rueben, pastrami and other deli cravings at their new location. Check them out at www.Zinskys.com

New Place to Lunch

Split Peas Soup Cafe just opened in the old Urbano place (which has been reincarnated over by Jimmy's and is BYOB!). Apparently the soup is very good (if it wasn't, that'd just be sad), but they also have some yummy salads and sandwiches for those who don't just want a liquid lunch. Oh, but they do serve some very good martinis in case you really do want a liquid lunch.

Does Anyone Know What Bastille Day Really Is? (And Do You Care?)

One of my fave people-watching spots, Toulouse, is the perfect place to enjoy a Bastille Day summer picnic plate. $30 gets you a bottle of house wine, half of a warm baguette, radishes, prosciutto and melon charantais, a trio of salads and crudites, marinated olives, and spiced nuts. It’s enough for two. Their patio rocks too because it has misters and is covered so you won't melt to the ground.

Beat the Clock at Victory Park

I'm still hoping that Victory Park will magically make a turnaround and be filled with life, but not so sure that's going to happen today or even this week. But, here's a super cool deal at The Boardroom at VP:

You can play ‘Beat the Clock’ for happy fun each Thursday. Enjoy select beers for only 50 cents beginning at 7pm, moving to $1 at 7:30, $1.50 at 8pm and so on. Happy hour Monday-Friday includes ½ off pitchers of beer and 25 percent off signature cocktails. Let's go!

2'fers at the Improv

Just got a heads up from Addison Improv that you can get 2 for 1 tickets for a number of their upcoming shows. One of those who's actually NOT part of the 2 for 1 deal is Sheryl Underwood and, if you haven't seen her, go check her out. She's insanely funny and very cool. Check out the full schedule at www.improv.com

Go get your laugh on already. It burns calories.

A Cheap(er) Lunch at Craft

Craft in the W Hotel at Victory Park is incredibly yummy and it just became slightly (very slightly) more affordable at lunch.

They're now serving a three-course lunch for you that costs just $28. The "Power Lunch," as they've dubbed it, is Mon–Fri, 11:00am–2pm. Word on the street is the Power Lunch menu will feature two first course options, three second course options, and two dessert options. Anyone want to do lunch?

I Scream, You Scream, We all Scream for Ice Cream (Floats)

Swing by Pokey O's by the SMU Bookstore on Mockingbird Lane to get $1 off all ice cream floats now through August 15. If you're not a float kind of girl or guy, definitely grab one of their Pokey O's ice cream sandwiches featuring fresh baked cookies and Blue Bell Ice Cream. Yum!

I Heart Tiff's Treats

It comes as no surprise that Tiff's Treats won Best Desserts in Dallas in the WFAA A-List Best-Of Awards!

As promised, they are extending a $5.00 off Coupon to their frieds for this week:$5.00 off any order over $15.00. Use Online Promotion Code: 5WFAA

We love you Tiff! Way to Go!

GolfNow . . . or Later

No, it's not a typo, it's www.GolfNow.com and it's a nifty way to score a cheap tee time at cool courses around town and around the country. I used it to book a tee time for this weekend so I'll actually get out and see a course other than the one in my backyard. Seriously, $19 for greens fees and a cart on a Sunday afternoon, that's cheap. Sure, it'll be like 107 degrees, but it's a dry heat, really.

Restaurant Week is Here

Every foodie's favorite week/two weeks/month is coming up and the Restaurant Week list is out. Click here to check it out.

If you're not sure what Restaurant Week is, we'll let you in on the secret. Many of the best restaurants in town offer a 3 course meal for only $35. They usually have a few options for you to choose from and it's a great way to check out all the great restaurants you've been dying to go to.

But make your reservations ASAP. Somehow I managed to get into 560, but it's on a Monday night, so that's not so sexy. Got into Jasper's too. Wondering where else to hit. . . . Probably Hector's on Henderson because the food rocks and we love Hector!

Paul McCartney is Coming to Big D

Wouldn't be how I'd pick to spend $500 on concert tickets, but a friend asked for the presale password, which is still running for a few more days. So, if you really love Sir Paul, use 8003272177 and get your $175 or $250 seats before everyone else can buy them

P.S. - It's at Jerryworld in Arlington, which is super cool. I know b/c we went to see the Jo Bros. there, err, I mean, another event, whatever, I mean the Jo Bros.

Welcome to Deals, Steals and Things You Want to Know

I decided it was time to start blogging because my friends and family keep coming to me for recommendations and information about just about anything. It's not that I'm brilliant, but I get a lot of junk emails (no not the ones about the blue pills) and I skim them for the best information. When I find good stuff, I'll put it up here. If you find good stuff you want to share, just let me know.

And to my friends who keep asking me about stuff, I'll probably post your Q&A up here too because, like they said in school, there's no such thing as a stupid question and someone else probably has that same question.

Enjoy!
