Free Slurpees Tomorrow at 7-11

Yes, they're the tiny 7.11 ounce Slurpees. But they're free. And they're at all the 7-11's in town. But wait, it starts at 11 a.m., so no morning Slurpee for you. Oh, and they only have a limited number of those silly little cups, so you better get there early. They've got some new flavors out too, so this is a good opportunity to taste those random ones you keep thinking about before you just get the usual half cherry/half coke concoction. And it's free.

Buy Art to Help Alley's House

Alley’s House helps teen mothers with counseling, tutoring, life skills, mentoring and job training. Part of its mission is to prevent drop outs and help teen mothers succeed in their education.

The nonprofit is holding an online art sale to raise funds. Local artists donated work, and each piece is for sale at $160. All of the proceeds go to helping the Alley’s House mission.

Alley’s House also will hold an art auction atRising Art Gallery downtown, from 7-11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4. Tickets are $25.

You can also give money to Alley’s House, or buy and donate something that’s on its wish list.

Your Thursday Night Plans: Go Out and Give Back

What: The local charity that hosts monthly foodie events to raise money for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) sets up table on the rooftop of budding Lower Greenville resto Rohst.

Sit Down to Stand Up for Kids- um, decorated cool tiny chairs, because tiny is in
What: A silent auction of tiny handmade chairs decorated by twenty-plus Etsy Dallas artists alongside free food, drinks, and music.
Why: All proceeds benefit Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, a nonprofit agency serving abused kids.
When: Thurs., 6:30-9 p.m.
Where: South Side on Lamar, 1409 S. Lamar St., Blue Room.

Cheesy Event

Cheesemongers at Whole Foods Markets across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom at 3 p.m. Saturday will simultaneously demonstrate the traditional method of breaking into a 24-month-aged wheel of Parmigiano Reggiano, using official tools (knives) from Italy's Consorzio del Fromaggio Parmigiano Reggiano.

These are 85-pound wheels, and the skilled carvers usually take about 30 minutes to complete the task, according to WFM's press release. If you're a cheesehead, this is fun to watch. Kids are entertained by it, too. So stop by any area WFM.
